Attention Hunters – We Turn Your Pelts into Unique Creations
Would you like to transform your tanned pelts into something truly special? In our in-house atelier at Mersmann Design, we specialise in processing game pelts from local hunting into high-quality, handcrafted products. We work with a wide range of furs, including fox, raccoon, raccoon dog (enok), stone marten, pine marten, polecat, nutria and muskrat. Pelts obtained through trapping are particularly well suited, as they often provide optimal quality for further processing. The ideal time for harvesting a mature pelt is from mid/late November to the end of January, when the animal carries its dense winter coat, ensuring excellent hair quality. For those who value sustainable use of game, it is important not to start hunting too early in the season. The best results for fur processing and craftsmanship are achieved with small-calibre shots, although pelts with shotgun damage can also be used. Even in cases of significant damage, our experienced furriers apply exceptional skill and precision – we make it possible.
Tanning Before Processing – Important Information
The first and most important step before any fur processing is professional tanning. The easiest way is through Gerberei Birke, a specialised tannery where you can submit your prepared pelt or even the whole animal for tanning. As a traditional fur atelier, Mersmann Design focuses exclusively on the process of turning tanned pelts into high-quality, handcrafted products. Please note that we do not accept untanned pelts.
We also do not offer the purchase of raw pelts or tanning services ourselves.

Fox Fur Blanket - Requirements & Processing
To create a high-quality fox fur blanket, approximately 14 pelts are required. The more pelts available for selection, the larger and more uniform the final blanket will be. With around 14 high-quality furs, we can already produce a size of approx. 140 x 200 cm.
The final dimensions always depend on the number and quality of the pelts. We offer two different processing options, depending on your preferences and the material.

In this unique processing technique, the head sections of the pelts are aligned together, while the sides are extended using the paws, creating a particularly striking and authentic look.
This method highlights the natural character of the fur and results in a truly individual custom-made fur blanket with a distinctive design.

Loden Jacket with Raccoon Fur - Functional Luxury
Your raccoon pelts are carefully sheared and expertly integrated into a classic loden jacket, creating a unique combination of traditional outerwear and modern fur craftsmanship.
This custom-made loden jacket with raccoon fur lining is available in sizes 48 to 58. Please note that the inner lining made from raccoon fur can make the jacket feel slightly smaller when worn.

The water-repellent cotton outer fabric offers reliable protection against dirt and rain, making this fur-lined parka perfectly suited for everyday wear. At Mersmann Design in Münster, each piece is handcrafted, including the outer shell, which is made to measure in our in-house atelier.

There are virtually no limits to creativity - in addition to fox, raccoon fur can also be used. We can even incorporate fur into the interior of your case for added protection and a distinctive look.
